Economy of Gifts

With global capitalism under way to collapse, I would like to start living in an economy of gifts. I've lived on communes with an egalitarian-communist structure, but I would like to try an egalitarian tribal-clan way. Not so much structure as flow. Perhaps in following the MotherSpine, that is the trail from mountain peak to peak, I could get at the essence of the snake dance. I also take MotherSpine to mean reserve of ecosystem, bread root and the rest. In that way we dig and plant back, and everyone's invited to a potlatch. You just give what you've brought away and trust that everyone else will too! The Bigheads brought dried fish. The Little Tooth brought camas. And the Stretchears brought payote, ya know.

Seeds in the Road

Cyborgs Unite!

Rewild a cyborg? Has is come to that? Homo trans cyborg(us?)(is?) is the new sapient in my opinion. I just made it up but it seems right. The device I'm using to write this is an extension of my person because it contains a part of me, the most alienated and conditioned part of me.

Snakes will be going on the hoop with cell phones and computers, gps and digital cameras, hydrocarbon shelters and hydrocarbon cookers. Mitigated to the max. How difficult will it be to give up these things with the gradual conditioning of pleasurable paliotechnology? I don't think very hard. I think it's a myth that returning to an abundant natural world is difficult. What's difficult is living as a biproduct of agriculture, alienated from the sky. But I'll take my guns and fishing poles, pick-up and mountain bike, water filter and rat traps.
